Carl Grether

Carl Grether received a BA in Psychology from Oberlin College before studying film at the University of Southern California. He planted his first garden in 2005; inspired by his empathic connection to plants, observation of living systems, and an evolving understanding of symbiosis. He has been working with plants and cultivating mutually beneficial symbiotic relationships ever since, which has included collaborations with many organizations within the San Francisco bay area focusing on food sovereignty, community resilience and regenerative design. Carl’s work in the food system has led to producing two feature length documentaries: Edible City and Occupy The Farm, that highlight innovative solutions to our planetary crisis and emerging models for building a mutualistic civilization, starting from the ground up.
